ONE NATION UNDER INNOVATION - Youth entrepreneurs come together to counter economic downturn

TORONTO, Ontario, November 17, 2008 – Canada prepares itself for the most exciting week that celebrates youth entrepreneurship, and inspires and empowers youth to take action upon their ideas. Considering the recent economic situation, entrepreneurship plays a vital role in re-stabilizing our economy by fostering innovation.

Entrepreneurship Week Canada is taking place from November 17- 23, 2008 with numerous events happening across Canada from coast to coast. Part of a global campaign known as Global Entrepreneurship Week, it is a collective effort of over 70 countries around the world aimed at engaging youth in local, national and global events that will stimulate their entrepreneurial spirit, truly taking local entrepreneurship global!

The Impact Entrepreneurship Group and Le Réseau des carrefours jeunesse-emploi du Québec have been selected as the official hosts for Entrepreneurship Week Canada. "Entrepreneurship Week Canada is a natural fit with Impact and its vision of raising awareness of youth entrepreneurship and Global Entrepreneurship Week will prove to be a week aimed at inspiring youth around the world" explains Peter La, Chair of Entrepreneurship Week Canada.

The week will kick-off with MaRS’s Social Entrepreneurship Summit and end with the fifth annual Impact National Conference. Over 500 youth leaders and entrepreneurs from across Canada will come together for the conference taking place on November 21-22, 2008 at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. The conference consists of interactive workshops, networking events and an 800 person gala event. Impact will also be running their first annual Leadership Summit on November 19, 2008 at the MaRS Discovery District. The exclusive one-day summit will bring together Canada’s most influential members of the entrepreneurial community from business leaders, government officials to young student entrepreneurs.

The Ontario Centres of Excellence is the national sponsor of Entrepreneurship Week Canada along with partners such as MaRS Discovery District, the Centre for Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology, the University of Manitoba, and the City of Windsor.
